Website Design & Build

Professional websites from brochure sites to e-commerce. Responsive, fast, and SEO-optimised.

There is no better first impression for a business than a professional website, provided it loads quickly, functions on any device and can be relied upon to generate enquiries. I put together responsive, SEO-ready sites for companies in Watford and Hertfordshire as well as the rest of the UK. All are Laravel based and come with a content system that is yours to run.

What is included in a website build?

I make sure every build is complete and ready to serve your business on day one. There is no leaving the essentials as an expensive add-on. You will have a design that is right at home on desktops, tablets and phones; the markup has solid SEO underpinnings; and there is a CMS so you can put your own edits to text or images without having to call me. I also put analytics in place to let you track what your visitors are up to. In short:

  • Responsive design for any screen

  • The SEO basics – fast pages, good meta data and a clean structure

  • Your own content management system

  • Standards-based, accessible markup

  • Analytics for measuring traffic and leads

What does the design process look like?

We begin with me getting to know your business and what you want to put in front of your customers. I then plan the content and structure and set about designing and building the key pages into a working site for you to review. It is important I keep you in the loop so there are no surprises. When you are satisfied, I take care of the testing and deployment and will show you how to manage things once we are live.

How long does a website take to build and what will it cost?

A typical project will see a launch in three to six weeks. A simple brochure site is on the quicker side, whereas something with more bespoke functionality or a wealth of content will take its time. We will have a timeline agreed before we start. As for price, I provide a fixed quote after we have discussed your aims, so you do not have to worry about open-ended day rates. My Starter package for a brochure site is £3,500; if you need a larger e-commerce or content operation, that falls into my Growth range at £8,500.

Can you build an online shop?

I certainly can. I build online stores with full product management and secure payment processing via Stripe and the like. An e-commerce site is in the Growth bracket and takes longer to put together than a brochure page because of the extra moving parts, but you will have a fast store of your own instead of being tied to someone else’s platform and their fees.

Do you build websites near me?

As a developer in Watford I am very happy to meet face to face if you are in the area, though I work with clients all over the UK. Have a look at my Watford web design and Hertfordshire web design pages for more detail or use the contact page to get in touch.

Will my website rank on Google?

I build on a foundation of good SEO so you have the best head start in search. With quick load times and proper semantic markup, you are giving the search engines what they want to reward. While nothing can guarantee the top spot, you can be sure your site will not be hampered by the technical issues that are the undoing of many others.

A Starter website takes two to three weeks and a Growth site four to six weeks, depending on how much content and how many features are involved. I agree a timeline with you up front and keep you updated at each stage of the build.

Will my website work on mobile and rank well on Google?

Yes. Every site I build is fully responsive, fast, and built on solid SEO foundations, clean markup, sensible structure and proper meta data. A quick, well-structured site gives you the best possible start in search and a good experience on every device.

Can I update the content myself?

Yes. I build in a straightforward content management system so you can edit pages, add posts and update images without touching code. I also show you how it works, so you are never dependent on me for routine content changes.

Do I own the website?

Yes, completely. The code, the content and the hosting accounts are all yours. There is no lock-in, and you can move the site elsewhere whenever you like.

Where are you based, and do you work remotely?

My base is Watford in Hertfordshire, and I design websites for businesses all over the UK. Local clients can meet me face to face, while remote projects are handled entirely online from first sketch through to launch.
